Honda will be one of the North American International Auto Show's highlights with the follow up to their 90's supercar, the global debut of the 2015 Acura NSX, one of this year's most anticipated cars this year.
In 2011, a mysterious concept from Acura made a brief appearance in Marvel's Avengers, driven by Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.), replacing his usual Audi R8 that he drove in the first two Iron Man movies. The first production of the concept car made its first appearance at the Detroit Auto Show back in 2012. Announced as the new NSX, Honda Motor Co. president Takanobu Ito officially announced that the model would launch three years after.
The first generation of the NSX ran production through the years 1990-2004 by Japanese car maker Honda. The rear-wheel drive supercar boasted a mid-engine V6 and gained popularity in the motoring world as one of the world's most reliable and affordable cars in its day. It also rivaled the Italian's Ferrari 348 in price and performance at that time.
The new 2015 Acura NSX is designed, developed and manufactured entirely in Marysville, Ohio's new Performance Manufacturing Center. The hybrid vehicle will operate on three electric motors, with each of the front wheels powered individually and a powerful twin-turbo V10 engine that sits in the middle, staying true to the original's design.
Acura will premiere the NSX on January 12, with the press conference streamed live on their official Youtube channel.
"The next generation NSX is going to deliver extreme supercar performance for the street and for the track," John Mendel, executive vice president of the automobile division for American Honda, told reporters in Detroit Tuesday. "And an all new engine made into a three-motor sport hybrid system truly delivers a new sports car experience." (quote taken from Detroit News)
