The DC Universe has announced itself to a Marvel-dominated Hollywood with a slew of films up until 2020. Kicking off with 2013's Man of Steel, DC will follow up with Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, a much awaited crossover film due in 2016. They will be introducing Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Cyborg; each character due to have a solo film in the coming years.
As with Marvel's Avengers, they are also making a movie for their premiere superhero team - Justice League, with Zack Snyder officially confirmed to direct it.
While some are excited to see the entire roster in a single film, some are wondering if they will have enough time to build each of the characters storylines especially with Marvel already having established most of their heroes. Here's a rundown of characters we're expecting to see:
Henry Cavill's Superman is DC's first (Christopher Nolan's Batman excluded) hero whose story has been established. Cavill will further build his story in 2016's Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. This will also debut the new Batman played by Ben Affleck. Both Ben and Henry will probably hold on to their character's capes until 2020, or wherever Batman and Superman is concerned.
Wonder Woman, who will be played by Israeli beauty Gal Gadot of "Fast & Furious" fame is also expected to join the Justice League. Gadot is rumored to make an appearance in Dawn of Justice and has officially been given her own solo film due in June 2017.
Aquaman, in theory has already made his presence known in Man of Steel. The king of Atlantis is getting a revamp, much different from what we remember in the comic books. Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa will be playing the role, with solo film slated for a July 2018 release.
The Flash is enjoying his steady success with his own show over at CW, much different from the 90's series which was considered a flop, running for only one season. That much can't be said for Green Lantern, who's latest incarnation was with Ryan Reynolds back in 2011 with the movie failing to perform at the box office . Both characters are expected to join the Justice League in 2017.
A Shazam movie has been scheduled for 2019. The film has been slow on updates, the latest confirms Dwayne Johnson playing Shazam's nemesis Black Adam.
Ray Fisher will be playing Cyborg in 2020 in his own feature film. Originally a member of the Teen Titans, Victor Stone aka Cyborg was re-introduced in the comic book The New 52 as being a member of the Justice League. We also expect him to appear in the film.
