New 'Friday The 13th' Movie Due 2015 Is Still Without A Script; Producers Turn To TMNT 2 Instead

Jan 15, 2015 01:02 PM EST | By Fred Yelland

A new Friday The 13th film will be joining the list of horror releases this year. The upcoming film, concidentally the 13th film of the long running series is being developed under Paramount and Platinum Dunes from producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

In an exclusive with Collider from mid last year, Form let slip a few details about the hockey-masked killer's next big-screen adaptation:

"We love Friday the 13th.  We had the best time making that movie.  An opportunity to bring Jason back again, for us, we jump at it.  We just have to tell the right story.  It's truly about, what is this version?  We're working hard on that.  We have a great director, David Bruckner, and we're trying to figure it out.  We have to crack that." he said.

Fast forward to today in a more recent interview, still with Collider, Form gave an update on Friday The 13th:

"Just working on the script still.  Hoping to make that movie this year and Brad, I'm gonna confirm that Jason is in the movie."

David Bruckner is no stranger to the horror genre, having made films such as The Signal and the V/H/S series. Followers of the series are baffled with the delay as the plot of all the movies have generally been the same over the years: teenagers getting killed off in the woods by Jason.

The two producers are instead working on a follow up to last year's successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, revealing that they will start filming in New York in April. TMNT is due out in summer 2016.

The last Friday The 13th movie came out in 2009, was directed by Marcus Dispel and starred Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti. The plot included the origins of the antagonist Jason Vorhees. At the time of its opening, Friday The 13th grossed $19,293,446 at the box office, exceeding the individual grosses of previous installments Jason Takes Manhattan (1989), Jason Goes To Hell (1993) and Jason X (2002).
