Benedict Cumberbatch In 'The Imitation Game' For Oscars 2015 Best Actor; Tells Parents The Nomination ‘Is One Of The Proudest Moments’ In His Life

Legions of Benedict Cumberbatch fans rejoice as news reveal that "The Imitation Game" actor receives his first Oscar nomination for 2015 awards.

In the recent announcement of Oscar nominees, Benedict Cumberbatch is announced in the running for the Best Actor category for his work in the Alan Turing biopic, "The Imitation Game." For his first Oscar nomination, Benedict Cumberbatch is said to be so thrilled that he couldn't wait to call his parents-who are both actors-about this wonderful news.

In a report by ABC News, Benedict Cumberbatch said, "So excited and honoured to receive this recognition. It's wonderful to be included by the Academy in this exceptional year of performances. To ring my parents who are both actors and tell them that their only son has been nominated for an Oscar is one of the proudest moments of my life."

Benedict Cumberbatch is the son of actors Timothy Carlton ("Parting Shots" 1999) and Wanda Ventham ("Asylum" 2005).

"The Imitation Game" to which Benedict Cumberbatch owes his first Oscar nomination for is a biopic on the life and discoveries of Alan Turing. The official synopsis of "The Imitation Game" reads: "Based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing, the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain's top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II."

Not only has Benedict Cumberbatch's work as Alan Turning merited a Best Actor nomination, but "The Imitation Game" has gathered a total of eight nominations for the upcoming Oscars 2015. Apart from Benedict Cumberbatch's nomination, his co-star Keira Knightley has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Other nominations for Benedict Cumberbatch's "The Imitation Game" includes Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Film Editing, and the highly coveted, Best Film.
