'Blade Runner 2' Release Date Is Still Happening Says Director Ridley Scott; Harrison Ford Reprises His Old Role

Jan 20, 2015 10:48 PM EST | By Fred Yelland

"Prometheus" director Ridley Scott discussed the sequel to one of his classics "Blade Runner." Speaking to Yahoo! UK, he confirmed that the movie is still a go.

"It's on the charts. I can't say when that would be yet, because of [Ford's] thing with Star Wars. It's a sequel - it's what happens next. It's quite surprisingly clever."

Joining Scott in "Blade Runner 2" are writers Michael Green (Green Lantern) and Hamton Fisher; Scott has worked with Fisher previously in "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, founders of Alcon Entertainment, the company responsible for the sequel released a statement regarding the film.

Here's the statement via Screen Rant.

"We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project,"

The director says that the Blade Runner sequel "involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years-despite the accident (referring to his injury sustained filming for the Star Wars movie)," he said. "It's written and it's damn good."

When asked if he will have enough time to squeeze in the highly anticipated "Prometheus 2," the director responded "Probably after The Martian -- That's the problem, I've got a lot of ducks in a row. But they're all written."

Harrison Ford will next be seen "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," reprising his role as Han Solo. The movie is due out in December this year.
