Spice Girls to Perform at the Olympics Closing Ceremony [What time to watch it]

Aug 12, 2012 06:05 PM EDT | By Staff Reporter

Popular 1990s girl band, The Spice Girls, have been confirmed to perform at the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday.

The Spice Girls were photographed dancing atop black London taxis, so a rendition of their biggest hit, "Wannabe," seems certain.

"If the opening ceremony was the wedding, then we're the wedding reception," music director David Arnold tells the Daily Telegraph.

Also expected to perform in the show, which will include British hits from the past five decades: The Who, George Michael, Muse, the Pet Shop Boys and Annie Lennox.

Earlier this year, Chisholm (aka "Sporty") made it clear to Olympic organizers that she really, really, really wanted the group to be included.

"I'd be really upset if the Spice Girls weren't included in the Olympics, whether it be the opening or closing ceremonies or any other playlists, because I think we absolutely represented Britain in the '90s," she said. "I think it would be a real shame if we weren't acknowledged in some way at the Olympics."

The globe-conquering boy band One Direction are tipped to be on the bill. Coldplay, Muse, The Who, Queen, Madness, Annie Lennox, Kaiser Chiefs, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran and Elbow are also rumored to feature.

Confirmed to appear is George Michael, who announced it via Twitter. "Hey everyone, how are you. Spending most of the next week rehearsing like crazy for the Olympic closing ceremony....." he wrote on Tuesday.

The closing ceremony will air in on NBC in prime time on Sunday from 7 to 10:38 p.m. EST. It will not be broadcasted live so what you can expect is an edited version, just like how NBC aired the opening ceremony.
