CBS brings another superhero on television and "Supergirl" details are unveiled! Recent addition to the cast members includes lead actors Melissa Benoist and Mehcad Brooks.

Another DC Comics character is coming to life as "Supergirl" development progresses. Recent updates on the upcoming TV series reveal that the title role and the love interest have both been casted.

Melissa Benoist is set to portray lead character Kara Danvers also known as Kara Zoe-El and will be Supergirl once the cape comes on. The 26-year-old actress is known for her role as Nicole in the indie film "Whiplash" released last year. She has also appeared in other television shows such as "Homeland" and "Glee" season 4-5 as Marley Rose.

A few days after "Supergirl" lead actress was announced, the character of Jimmy Olsen was settled. The love interest of Melissa Benoist's Kara Danvers will be portrayed by 34-year-old actor Mehcad Books. He is known for his work in the ABC hit series "Desperate Housewives" as Matthew Applewhite. He also appeared in the 2014 movie "About Last Night."

In a report by ScreenRant, Tiffany Smith describes "Supergirl" TV series plot which "will follow Kara Zor-El, a Kryptonian girl who's been hiding her powers here on Earth, but decides to embrace her powers, and become the hero she was always meant to be."

A few months back, there have been rumors that the creators are planning a storyline that is somewhat far from the comics. This speculation however has been confirmed by CBS' Nina Tassler in an interview with EW, in which she said, "There will be [crime] cases, but what [executive producers] Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti pitched was a real series arc for her."

"The beauty of it is now with shows like 'Good Wife' and 'Madame Secretary,' you can have serialized story elements woven into a case of the week. She's a crime solver, so she's going to have to solve a crime," continued Tassler.

So far, Melissa Benoist and Mehcad Brooks have been casted for "Supergirl." Stay tuned for more news and updates here!
