Writer Simon Kinberg Talks About Possibility Of Rumored 'X Men' Versus 'Fantastic Four' Movie In 2018

Feb 02, 2015 01:45 PM EST | By Fred Yelland

Late last year, Fox followed in the steps of both DC and Marvel in naming their releases of superhero films leading up to the next six years or so.

Titles like "Deadpool" and "Gambit," "X Men: Apocalypse" were all announced including Josh Trank's reboot of "Fantastic Four," which comes out this year.

Their final release, an "untitled X Men movie" was scheduled to be released in 2018. It wasn't long before rumors of an "X Men" versus "Fantastic Four" film surfaced on the web; appropriate, as this might be Fox's answer to Marvel's "Avengers" and DC's upcoming "Justice League."

Making even more sense of the gossip, both "Fantastic Four" and "X Men" in the comic books have crossed over into the Marvel Universe, but that's not the case in the big screen version of these titles.

Fox apparently isn't letting these two titles go anywhere, so it would make sense to do this crossover film.

Earlier, we've reported that "Fantastic Four" writer Simon Kinberg is dabbling with the idea, saying "it's not out of the realm of possibility."

He elaborates the idea more on this article on Screen Rant.

"I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, and I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there's some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it's not out of the realm of possibility."

Kinberg brought up the idea again in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"The reboot of 'FanFour' really needed to work in and of itself. We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie. If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There's a lot of precedent from the comics."

Until then, here's Fox's complete schedule of releases.

"Fantastic Four" opens on Aug. 7, 2015, "Deadpool," on Feb. 12, 2016, "X Men: Apocalypse" on May 27, 2016, "Gambit" on Oct. 7, 2016, "Wolverine 3" on March 3, 2017, "Fantastic Four" 2 on June 2, 2017 and the untitled "X Men" movie on July 13, 2018.
