Social media blew up when Sam Smith's boyfriend - now ex - made his debut in the multi-Grammy winner's Instagram account last December.

He met the tattoo-clad Jonathan Zeizel during a shoot for his music video for "Like I Can."

However, a few weeks later, the "Stay With Me Singer" announced his breakup with the model during a show in Toronto, Canada.

"This song is very special for me today. It's because I've actually had to do a very similar thing today with someone I've been seeing," Smith reportedly told the crowd before proceeding to (ironically) sing "Like I Can" last January.

A month later, the "Lay Me Down" singer seems to have had enough time to process what he went through. He realized that he made a mistake in posting photos of them Instagram so early on in the relationship.

"I made a mistake by posting pictures of us on Instagram and making it seem more serious than it was. I've learned that I need to hold off before I start getting the public involved," Sam Smith said of his ex boyfriend in an interview with ES Magazine via Daily Mail.

"I would say it was a relationship, but I still feel like I haven't had a proper boyfriend yet," he continued, adding that they just weren't suited for each other.

Meanwhile, he recently thanked a past love at the Grammys for giving him enough heartbreak to complete his award-winning album, "In The Lonely Hour."

"I want to thank the man this record is about... for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys,"

When Ellen DeGeneres asked him about his next relationship, he jokingly told her that anyone who wanted to become his boyfriend has to polish his four Grammy trophies.

Who do you think should Sam Smith's next boyfriend be?
