Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight is bound to become the most important of the recent generation.

It is also expected to become the richest as it is predicted to earn $300 million combined for both fighters. Many fans believe this will be an epic mega event, some experts think the same.

However, they are skeptical if this highly requested match will save the sport.

"(Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight) It's going to be massive , but it's also going to be a massive one-off," Bob Dorfman, executive creative director of Baker Street Advertising in San Francisco, told Reuters.

"It would've had more impact overall on the boxing world if it happened five years ago when it could've been the beginning of an ongoing series of fights between these guys that would've maybe built in momentum."

For Robert Boland, a sports business professor from New York University, the Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight that is set to take place on May 2 could be the last hurrah of the sport.

"This may be the last hurrah of boxing," Boland said. "It's an interesting moment and maybe a moment that boxing will come together and figure out where it goes for the future."

Another boxing expert told in an interview with Reuters that the excruciating wait for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight will only hurt other young aspirants. As you all know, people have been requesting for this fight to happen since 2006, the time when the two fighters were still at their best. However, both camps didn't come up with a deal earlier.

Kathy Duva, chief executive of New Jersey-based boxing promotion company Main Event argue that since the focus of boxing officials and promoters are targeted on the two, other boxers were not given enough attention.

"There are a lot of good younger fighters out there who are ready to step up and become the stars and it's hard to do that when you got two people who are still there, lingering and not willing to pass the torch," Duva said.

What do you think? Will Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Manny Pacquiao fight be the last exciting boxing match people will see?
