More than one million countertop ovens sold across the US and Canada have been recalled after reports of injuries caused by their doors suddenly closing and burning users.
The recall, announced by Sunbeam Products in coordination with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects approximately 1.29 million Oster French Door Countertop Ovens in the US and another 104,000 in Canada.
The affected ovens were sold between August 2015 and July 2025 at major retailers including Walmart, Costco, Bed Bath & Beyond, and online at Amazon and Overstock. Prices ranged from $140 to $250, ConsumerReports said.
According to the CPSC, the ovens' spring-loaded French doors can close unexpectedly while users are removing food, creating a risk of burns.
So far, Sunbeam has received 95 reports of injuries, including two cases of second-degree burns.
The company said that while fewer than 100 incidents were reported out of over 1.2 million units in use, it is moving forward with the recall to ensure consumer safety.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled countertop ovens and contact Sunbeam Products Inc. to receive a free repair kit," the CPSC stated.

Oster Ovens Recalled, Free Repair Kit Offered
The kit includes a clip-on device designed to keep the doors open securely, along with repair instructions and a QR code linking to a video demonstration.
According to FoxBusiness, the recall affects seven specific models: TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDG, TSSTTVFDMAF, TSSTTVFDDAF, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDDAF-033, and TSSTTVFDXLPP-033.
Each model features two glass doors that swing open side by side rather than the traditional single pull-down door. The model number can be found on the back of the unit or on its original packaging.
Sunbeam stressed that the company respects consumer safety standards and is offering the free repair solution rather than a refund or replacement.
The company also noted that many of the injuries reported were comparable to accidents that can happen with common kitchen appliances.
Retail giants Walmart, Costco, and Amazon were among the key sellers of the recalled ovens, meaning the recall affects a wide base of households across North America.
Consumers can call Sunbeam at 800-334-0759, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.
