‘American Idol’ Season 14: Is The 2-Hour Format Working For The Long-Running Show? Find Out Who The Top 10 Contestants Are Here!

"American Idol" season 14 saw a new format of two hours a week compared to previous seasons' two nights per week.

Although fans already have two hours instead of one to watch the "Idol" hopefuls perform, some avid followers are bemoaning the shortened weekly format.

Each week, the contestants who are safe gets called out to perform the song they prepared to help them stay for one more week.

Billboard, in particular, is not happy about the new presentation.

"For one thing, it feels that the contestants are being rushed through their songs," the article points out. The contestants only have some seconds to enjoy being able to go through the next level before they start preparing for their performance.

According to the article, the best example of the new format's drawback was the top 12 performance. The new format supposedly "threw some of them off their game and led to all the pitch problems we have seen this season."

"American Idol" season 14's shortened episodes might also limit the time for the judges - Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. - to give out proper critiques compared to previous seasons.

This raises the question of whether the contestants can actually get some helpful comments from the trio of judges throughout the season.
