Director Found For 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' Movie Reboot! Will The Cast Be Revealed Soon?

Apr 13, 2015 11:11 PM EDT | By Sherylyn Toda

Aside from the recent bootleg trailer from Joseph Kahn, which immediately went viral, news about "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie reboot has been slow.

Not until now that is, The Wrap revealed that Haim Saban and Lionsgate could have finally found a director for the reboot.

And while nothing is finalized yet, the publication claimed that "Project Almanac" director Dean Israelite is already in negotiations to helm the upcoming "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reboot.

In line with the new director, fans are now expecting to hear updates about the 90s classic teenage superhero film's new cast.

Following Lionsgate and Haim Saban's announcement of the project, it's expected that cast would be revealed soon rather than later.

"With an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen," the studio's official announcement said.

Adding that it will re-visualize the Rangers as "a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world."

And while the studios are all set for the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie, Hollywood stars including Taylor Lautner, Chloe Grace Moretz and Liam Hemsworth were all linked to the reboot, but none of them has confirmed or denied involvement from the project yet.

Only original cast Jason David Frank, who portrayed the role of Green Ranger, has expressed his desire to appear in the movie.

"I wanna be in the real 'Power Ranger' movie," Frank admitted in his Facebook post when he responded to the fan-made short film made by Joseph Kahn and Adi Shankar. "You know what I mean? So Lionsgate let's get this stuff going on be in the real movie. I've saved my character for so long. And when I bring my character out in like in the movies or something linke that I want it to be legit. I want it to be a Saban blessing approved project."

On the other hand, David Yost,  who portrayed Billy Cranston aka Blue Ranger did not mention anything about his involvement with the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reboot, instead he just expressed his excitement for the upcoming project.

"They obviously have a proven track record. And I will be very excited to see what they do with the franchise," he said in an interview with Yahoo Movies.

Adding, "But obviously anyone who's stepping into the role of a Power Ranger - I just hope that they realize how exciting that is and the impact they will have on many people's lives throughout the world and do their best to portray a good superhero."
