Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams were spotted getting cosy with each other last June when they went out for some lunch together.
A source reportedly denied any romantic connection between the two A-listers to E! News at that time but the rumors still persisted. It reignited when the pair were seen arriving together for Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez in New York later that month, according to Daily Mail.
Ellen DeGeneres recently had the chance to clear the air out one and for all.
Without mentioning his "Southpaw" co-star, the famous talk show host asked Gyllenhaal if he was single. He readily confirmed that he was.
Prior to that, DeGeneres asked the 34-year-old if he had been on any bad dates. He hasn't and it's because of a sweet reason.
"I always bring my dates to my mother's house for the first date," the "Nighcrawler" star told the host. "I think it's a good move."
All though it might sound like a joke, Entertainment Tonight suggested that this might just be true based on his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's rumored song for Gyllenhaal, "All Too Well."
"And your mother's telling stories about you on a tee ball team," the publication quoted the song's lyrics. "You taught me 'bout your past, thinking your future was me."
Should Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams take their relationship out of the platonic stage and into the romantic phase then "The Notebook" star might just find herself hearing about the "Donnie Darko" star's childhood days.
Gyllenhaal also told DeGeneres that his mother believed that arranged marriages "might be able to work."
"Absolutely, I would trust my mom,"he replied when asked whether he'd go on a possible date that his mom might set him up with.
For now, however, he claims that he's still very single.
In the meantime, fans can see Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams together on the big screen when "Southpaw" premieres on July 24.
