‘The Originals’ Season 2 Finale Leaves Klaus Alone On His Throne! Is He The Best Father In The World Or The Most Dangerous?

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has been called a psychopath, a lunatic and a heartless monster by everyone around him but there's no denying the love that he has for his daughter, Hope.

This fierce and overprotective love became more than obvious during "The Originals" season 2 finale.

An episode before this, the most ruthless Mikaelson sibling angered viewers of the show after seemingly betraying his brothers and sisters to side with Dahlia (Claudia Black). Thanks to Camille (Leah Pipes), he was able to explain his plan, which involved a dangerous dance with danger.

He needed to make everything look convincing. He had to make Dahlia believe he didn't care for anyone to make her transfer her link with Freya (Riley Voelkel) to himself. Unfortunately, this included killing Gia (Nishi Munshi) right in front of Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and angering all the other people he considered family.

However, his actions, although done to protect his daughter didn't sit well with several people - most of them the people that matter most to him. Elijah vowed to leave his side, Rebekah (Claire Holt) resented him for putting her back in her vampire body and Marcel hated him for compelling him to hurt the woman he loves. He also forced Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) into a curse that would keep her away from her daughter.

Davina (Danielle Campbell), who wanted to bring Kol back to life, was tricked into resurrecting Esther instead. With her new power as Regent of all the witches, she planned to wage war against Klaus and essentially all vampires in New Orleans.

All that Klaus had left was his daughter, the one person he would be willing to sacrifice everything for. But towards the end of "The Originals" season 2, he finally realized what he really lost because of his recklessness and paranoia.

Can he still be redeemed in the next season? With producer Michael Narducci promising a "frightening" new mythology in the season three, will the Mikaelson siblings be able to gather again to honor their promise of "always and forever"?

With Riley Voelkel, who plays the siblings' long lost sister Freya, promoted to series regular, it looks like viewers will see more dynamic in the Mikaelson family. Especially with the eldest Mikaelson sister's lifelong desire for a family, it would be intriguing to see what she will bring to the table (assuming that her angst disappeared along with Dahlia's death).
