When the 19th season of "The Bachelor" ended, fans hoped for the couple to end up in marriage. However, Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff decided to break up just six months after taping the finale.
"The Bachelor" creator Mike Fleiss announced the sad news via Twitter.
"Sad news to report: @souleschris and @whitbisch are no longer engaged..." he posted, which was followed by a joint statement released by the former couple.
"Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement," US Weekly quoted the announcement about Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff's breakup. "They part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey."
The news comes a few weeks after Soules insisted that they were still together during a broadcast of "Dancing With The Stars".
"We're together and we're in love," he told US Weekly. "We're making the best of a really cool situation that we're both a part of that's not going to last much longer... We're just normal people living a kind of abnormal life for a couple more weeks."
"I can't thank you all enough for the kind messages over the past few days. This has been really tough and your support means a lot to me," the 33-year-old farmer from Iowa tweeted following the announcement.
On the other hand, the 29-year-old Chicago-based fertility nurse returned to her hometown, posting a video of a cute little girl on Instagram.
"Now this little gal knows how to make me smile! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your outpouring love, kindness and support! It means so much to me!" she captioned the short clip.
Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff's decision to break up followed several months of speculation that their relationship was disintegrating.
According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Soules had been "swept away by the limelight" that "Dancing With The Stars" brought. He has allegedly been cheating on his fiancé with his partner Witney Carson as well.
