Looks like the next biggest even in boxing will be the Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr fight. If it is the British boxer that you will ask, he thinks the match he covet is about to happen.

Khan said he is right now closer to a slug-fest with the still undefeated lightweight champion than he's ever been.

"I don't think I have ever been closer to getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather than I am at this moment," Khan said in an interview with Press Association Sport.

"The indications are that I have strengthened my case with my win over (Chris) Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks."

An Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr fight has been one of the biggest talks in recent weeks. Floyd is just coming off a big win against Manny Pacquiao while Khan beat Chris Algieri last week.

Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr fight is what most boxing fans are rooting for. It has been ages since someone offered a great challenge to Pretty Boy, and Amir Khan, being a knockout artist that he is, could be the answer.

Johnny Nelson though has a different opinion on the Amir Khan - Floyd Mayweather Jr fight. The Skysports pundit says it might not happen because the American fighter will look for a less-heralded boxer.

"I would be very, very surprised if he ever gets to box Floyd Mayweather," Nelson told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Amir Khan - in this situation - is too good for his own good. He will give Mayweather nightmares and Mayweather will just turn a blind eye and say 'we actually don't need this guy'.

"So Amir Khan will get all the fighters that nobody wants to fight, the fighters in the 'who needs them' club."
