Taraji P. Henson is probably one of the most excited among all the members of the "Empire" TV series. She has attended several events promoting the show's second season.
Also, she was the first to reveal "Empire" season 2 release date without the blessing from the Fox office.
Who's not feeling excited about the hit Fox musical drama? The show provided eargasmic songs backed by incredible acting from the star-studded cast. The only negative thing about it is the fact that "Empire" season 2 release date will only come on Sept. 23, approximately three months from now.
While it is natural to feel excited about the show, for Taraji P. Henson, excitement is not something she felt when she was cast. Reading about her character before the filming started, Henson said Cookie Lyon frightened her.
"I picked up the script and it scared me," Taraji P. Henson said in an interview as part of Variety Studio's Actors On Actors series.
"She scared me. The subject matter scared me. I just-I never seen anything like this on national network television. And I was like 'Are they even going to pick this up? Are you sure this is Fox and not HBO?' And Cookie has totally stolen my life. My girlfriends they only want to talk to me about Cookie. Thank God the season is over cause I think I have some of my friends back...Sharing a little bit of Cookie's pain or sharing a little bit of Yvette's [Baby Boy] pain might be a little window to my pain or my joy."
Cookie is one of the favorites in the show. From an ex-con wife of Empire Enterprises CEO Lucius Lyon (Terrence Howard), she is now one of the most powerful women in the music industry.
However, when the "Empire" season 2 release date hits, don't expect to see Cookie taking advantage of her triumph during the first season's finale. During the Television Academy event, Henson said Cookie will go back to the times when she was still starting in music.
