'Hannibal' Season 3 Is Adulthood Of The Show Says Premiere Episode Director Vincenzo Natali

As what people have seen in the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere, there is no Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) or any FBI activities.

The new season of the NBC TV series started with Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Dr. Bedelia du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) in Italy trying to win the hearts of the people around them. But of course, there is a hidden agenda behind it.

The "Hannibal" season 3 premiere episode, which TV By the Number said garnered 2.52 million ratings, did not feature Lecter's nemesis Will. Fans don't have to worry though because according to pilot episode director Vincenzo Natali, this step taken by the show is just a sign the show is maturing.

"Going into this season, very much with Bryan's [Fuller, the showrunner] encouragement, I felt this was a chance to redefine the show and give it a slightly new visual approach while very much keeping it within the continuum of the show," said Natali during an interview with Vulture ahead of the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere. Natali also directed the first three and sixth episode of this season.

"It's like the first season is the childhood, the second season is the adolescence, and the third season is an adult. It's an autonomous adult - a fully formed creature. It's just its own thing."

Natali also explained how different the new season would be compared to the first two.

"I felt that the show was even more romantic and gothic than it had been in the previous two seasons. It had managed to relinquish all the procedural FBI stuff, which, personally, was the one aspect of the show that interested me least," he said.

Hugh Dancy's Will Graham formed an unusual attraction with Lecter. Although the two did not have an interaction in the "Hannibal" season 3 premiere, they will reunite in the succeeding episodes.

After the first half of the season, the show will then explore the world of "Red Dragon" novel where its characters where based from. The "Red Dragon" chapter had Will Graham and Lecter working together to catch a serial killer named Francis Dolarhyde a.k.a. The Tooth Fairy.
