A church pastor in Fort Worth, Texas was killed Monday by an unknown attacker who drove a car into a church wall, got out the vehicle and proceeded to chase down the pastor before beating him continually with an electric guitar.

The church pastor has been identified as Rev. Danny Kirk Sr., the founding pastor of Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church, according to the Associated Press.

According to the report, the attacker drove his car into a church wall before noon Monday, got out of the car and began to attack the pastor in the parking lot before chasing him into the church.

Police arrived to find the suspect assaulting Kirk with an electric guitar that they believe was already inside the church. Police say a janitor was also injured while trying to stop the assault. They reported the janitor may have a broken jaw from the assault.

The suspect, who police used a Taser to subdue, also died a short time after being taken into custody. Police say only about 10 minutes had passed between the time the suspect was stunned to when he was discovered unresponsive.

Forest Hill Police Chief Dan Dennis said it was unclear whether the suspect knew Kirk, attended the church or why he might have attacked the pastor.
