Anne Hathaway May Be Booted Out Of 'Princess Diaries 3' Movie? Third Installment Is Reportedly In The Works, But Some Fans Are Not Too Excited

Movie goers first saw the "Princess Diaries" movie 14 years ago, the time when the young Anne Hathaway played the role of Genovia princess Mia Thermopolis. Now that reports say a new "Princess Diaries 3" movie is in the works, the question of whether Hathaway is coming back for the role remains a mystery.

But chances of her returning seem to be slim.

Hollywood insider website The Tracking Board pointed out that lead actress Hathaway "has refuted her involvement with a new sequel on multiple occasions, as rumors have circled on the plans to work on a "Princess Diaries 3" movie for several years.

The report also said the plot of the "Princess Diaries 3" movie is being kept in secret, citing sources that the installment may or may not include Hathaway despite the intention to work on a reboot of the franchise.

In a separate report by Access Hollywood few years back, Julie Andrews said she did not expect a return of a "Princess Diaries 3" movie with Hathaway, but open for the film's return.

"I would never say no because Disney's so wonderfully clever and inventive," Andrews said in the report. "But I would think they'll stay with just the two because of Annie."

It was her role as Mia Thermopolis in the "Princess Diaries" franchise that catapulted the actress to her big career in Hollywood. The movie made her win a Teen Choice Award as the chosen actress for a comedy role.

"It's cool that they're thinking of making a Princess Diaries 3, but if Anne Hathaway isn't in it then what's the point," posted one Twitter user.

The Tracking Board said Debra Chase of Martin Chase Products will be producing the possible third installment "Princess Diaries 3" movie, after becoming the producer on the last two movies. Charles Pugliese will reportedly oversee for Chase.

The first movie in the series was released in 2001 and directed by Garry Marshall. The film reportedly garnered more than $165 million worldwide.
