Early Voting Results Show Obama Leads in Ohio and Florida

Early voting results show President Barack Obama holds small but significant lead over Republican candidate Mitt Romney in several critical battleground states, speculation is building over whether the polls will be accurate.

During the 2008 elections, Democrats cast more early votes in key states leading him to beat Republican John McCain by 7 percentage points, but early voting  results show that this year, Democrats are casting less early votes.

"What we're seeing consistently ... is that there is a general underperforming in places where President Obama needs to do well and there's an over-performing in places where Governor Romney does well," Romney's political director Rich Beeson said on "Fox News Sunday."

More than 27 million Americans have voted in 34 states and District of Columbia. According to Politico, party affiliations for several key states have been released.

Over 27 million voters in 34 states and the District of Columbia took advantage of early voting, but analysts say Romney may still be able to wipe out the president's lead come Election Day. Meanwhile, in Colorado, 1.6 million people voted. Republicans outnumbered Democrats 37 percent to 35 percent.

Votes will not be counted until Tuesday, but several states are releasing the party affiliations of early voters, which is generally a good indication of which candidate they picked.

Voters can cast early in-person ballots for Tuesday's election until noon Monday at county courthouses and other locations around the state.
