Virtual reality allows users a wide variety of things including playing games and watching movies. But as of early this week, two new Samsung Gear VR apps let you explore restaurants and college campuses.

"Two new apps, including YouVisit Colleges and YouVisit Restaurants, are now available for Gear VR owners," TechnoBuffalo wrote. Users will be able to explore the campuses of Ivy League universities or even faraway ones such as North-West University in South Africa.

"More than a thousand campuses are available, offering the chance to check out a location before committing to your school."

As the name implies, YouVisit Restaurants allows Gear VR owners to explore New York City's top restaurants including Galli, Delmonico's and more. You'll still have to go to the actual place to order food though.

Unlike its rivals, the Gear VR doesn't require expensive hardware to power. Owners of the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge can enjoy the experiences the VR headset offers.

But with plenty of gaming titles among Samsung Gear VR apps, it's no surprise that the first title to launch with the consumer version is also a game. Instead of an action-packed first-person shooter though, the game is a bit more sedate and familiar to all.

During E3 2015, Swedish virtual reality game studio Resolution Games showed off "Solitaire Jester," according to VentureBeat. The Stockholm-based studio reportedly "wants to make casual releases for virtual reality platforms."

"'Solitaire Jester' teleports players to their own relaxing private library where they can enjoy some time off and hang out in front of the fireplace while playing a classic card game."

The game shows that "VR games are not just for violent, hardcore games," Resolution Games co-founder and CEO Tommy Palm said in a statement. VR games can also have a broader appeal for people "who seek familiar gameplay that is easy to understand and get into."

Palm said more games covering different genres will be among Samsung Gear VR apps.

"Solitaire Jester" will launch on the Oculus VR app store when the consumer Gear VR is released later this year.
