Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star In 'Terminator Genisys' Sequel? Ending Hinted Possible New Trilogy?

Jul 11, 2015 09:43 PM EDT | By Sherylyn Toda

Despite not doing well in the box office, Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly going to return and film a "Terminator Genisys" sequel.

While it only grossed "just $44.2 Million over a 5-day Holiday weekend" according to Movie Pilot, seemed like Paramount Pictures is determined to push through with the earlier reported trilogy.

Apparently the ending to "Terminator Genisys" will lead the story to the sequel.

Warning Spoilers Ahead!

The last few scenes from the movie showed how Earth could be in danger again. Given that Arnold Schwarzanegger and the rest of the team have successfully defeated the bad guys, fans should not discount the fact that Genisys is still corrupted and exists with the blue energy merging with the red light.

Director Aaron Taylor has also spoken of the possibility of the said sequel that leads to the trilogy.

"It was always there as a kind of gateway - to further developments it's precisely a kind of, 'it's not over yet' moment. On the one hand, it's one of the things that points to there being further chapters. On the other hand, this is a kind of franchise where I don't think anybody really believes that you're going to end up neatly or happily. So, when our heroes drive off into the sunset and we think, well that went well. There's still going to be a nagging feeling that wait, it's not that easy."

Reportedly, Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to return to the sequel, but not in the third and last one, The Arnold Fans exclusively reported.

"Yes, of course, next year," Schwarzenegger reportedly said when asked if he'll join "Terminator 6."

Schwarzenegger failed to mention if he'll be back for "T7."

According to Screen Rant the "Terminator Genisys" sequel is set to hit the cinemas on May 19, 2017, while the final installment to the franchise is set on June 29, 2018.
