When "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling snapped at Serena Williams' body shamer on Twitter, fans of both celebrities applauded her response. However, some netizens thought she went just beyond the threshold of appropriate comebacks to less than polite tweets.

"#SerenaSlam! I love her. What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman!" the writer first posted after the athlete won her 21st title at Wimbledon last Saturday.

After reading the tweet, a random follower replied with, "Ironic then that main reason for her success is that she is a built like a man."

Annoyed at the body-shaming, Rowling promptly responded to the troll.

"'She is built like a man'," she quoted the reply. "Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You're an idiot."

Her witty response gained a lot of attention, both positive and negative.

ABC News thought the famed writer's snappy reply was "flawless", while Entertainment Weekly called it her "one perfect tweet". Mirror, likewise, believed what she said was "epic".

On the other hand, JK Rowling's tweet in defense of Serena Williams brought on a debate on the microblogging site.

"OK but can we stop this nonsense that labels anyone who criticizes anyone else a "hater"? We are killing discourse," writer and publicist, Steve Salerno, responded to Rowling's post.

Another questioned the whole idea of Rowling taking offense to the Twitter troll's description of Williams, posting, "where freedom of expression gone in PC mad world? Must we find offence in 'built like a man' can't we laugh it off?"

Still, several followers defended not just Rowling's response to the body shaming, but athletic women in general.

"[She's] built like a supreme athlete - which is exactly all that matters :)," a follower tried to pacify the situation, adding, "scrutiny of her game is fine, likening her to a man because she has muscles isn't."

Do you think JK Rowling's defence of Serena William's physique went overboard or was her reply just enough?
