Moto 360 2nd Gen Specs: Smaller Size, Higher Resolution, Customizability Expected For Motorola’s Next-Gen Smartwatch

Many have taken the price cut of the first-gen model to mean that Motorola is preparing to launch a successor to its highly-successful 360 smartwatch. As of this writing, not much has been confirmed for the wearable device. Rumors and leaks have pointed to improved Moto 360 2nd Gen specs.

Earlier this year in April, iDigitalTimes said the Moto 360 2 will come with an improved resolution, from 320 x 290 to 360 x 360. Leaked pictures from Chinese social media website Weibo also pointed to "a smaller physical button" and a "perfect circle" shape.

Based on its internal codename "Smelt," the Gazette Review thinks the Moto 320 2 will include an all-metal build. It will reportedly run on Android Wear 5.1 and be powered by an Arm v7 processor.

According to the website, Motorola SVP of global marketing Adrienne Hayes already confirmed that it will be smaller than its predecessor as well. The smartwatch is said to have two sizes while the gold finish will make a comeback.

Wareable expects customization via Moto Maker. The ability to swap out straps and watchfaces are also part of Moto 320 2nd gen specs.

Earlier this month, Franchise Herald reported that the original Moto 360's price was cut to $149 in the Google Store, official Motorola website and Amazon. That device enjoyed much success during its run, according to Gazette Review.

"The watch was a huge success last year, leading among Android Wear devices."

The price cut led many to think that Motorola is getting ready to introduce the second-generation model soon.

Lenovo CEO and chairman Yang Yuanqing hinted that the new smartwatch is coming in the summer.

"We have many new models in development with the Moto brands so you may see in summer us launching some very exciting products, including phones and watches," he told The Telegraph last May.

Motorola is now owned by Lenovo.

Moto 360 2nd gen specs, release date and pricing haven't been confirmed at this point. Wareable expects it to roll out sometime in September.
