Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's greatest fictional character of all time, Sherlock Holmes, had been brought to life several times for TV and film. Some the newest actors to bring the genius detective back to life include Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey, Jr and Johnny Lee Miller.

Robert Downey, Jr. gave Sherlock a somewhat comedic quality in two blockbuster movies and made the modern public love the Victorian-era fictional character once again.

On the other hand, Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller put a distinct modern twist to the hundred-year-old tales with their own portrayals of the beloved detective.

Recently, Sir Ian McKellan gave viewers a glimpse into what an older version of Sherlock Holmes would be like in the movie "Mr. Holmes".

They aren't the only Sherlock Holmes portrayals that have made a mark over the years. According to Telegraph, Edward Woodward, Patrick Macnee and Roger Moore also made an impact during their time.
