Sergio Ramos Transfer News: Real Madrid Coach Rafa Benitez Wants Defender To Stay

Jul 24, 2015 08:32 PM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

Sergio Ramos transfer saga is something that has been going on ever since god knows when and it pains both Real Madrid and Manchester United fans that the fate of the elite defender is still up in the air.

Manchester United is one of the frontrunners in Sergio Ramos transfer. Not only because they badly needs a defender of Ramos' caliber but also because they have the wares and tools to get him.

According to reports, the Red Devils are willing to swap first team goalkeeper David de Gea in exchange of the World Cup winning defender.

If it is new Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez that will be asked, he does not want his hand on any Sergio Ramos transfer transactions. He would rather have the prized defender on his team.

"He's the captain and I'd like him to be with us at the beginning of the season because he's a crucial, fundamental player. As the coach I want him to stay 100%, it's extremely important for everyone. From my point of view, he's 100% staying. It's that clear to me, and I think to the club too. Sergio will remain our player and hopefully we'll be able to talk about him scoring key goals like he's done in the past." Benitez said according to a report by the Mirror's Steve Bates.

Rafa Benitez also acknowledged Manchester United's strong interest on Sergio Ramos transfer but insists he would rather have the 29 year old on his side.

"I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal and football is a curious world, but Sergio Ramos will stay with us."

Looks like Benitez does not have the last words on Sergio Ramos transfer. Just last month, Real Madrid let go of their veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas who spent the last 20 years with them.

This decision of the world's most valuable club does not sit well with fans and imagine what will happen if Ramos also gets sold, too.
