Danai Gurira may agree with fans clamoring for a Rick-Michonne romance in "The Walking Dead" season 6. But as some would point out, the katana-wielding badass did hook up with Morgan in the comic books. Will the show tackle this storyline or something else altogether?
Along with other "TWD" actors, Gurira sat down with Entertainment Weekly and addressed on a possible Richonne romance and agreed with fans that Michonne needs to get some.
"The Richonne thing - we get it a lot. They're friends, you know. And people want that. I love that folks want Michonne to get some. I always say that. I say to my boss, 'Michonne's a nun. She don't give none, she don't get none."
So will "The Walking Dead" season 6 see Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln's characters hook up? CarterMatt thinks the show might struggle to execute this storyline.
"The show wants to remain at its core about survival and about suspense, and not so much a love story."
Another thing is that in the comics, it's actually Michonne and Morgan (Lennie James) who actually hook up. But since the two characters haven't been together on-screen much, "it seems like a dismal prospect," according to The Blemish.
Earlier this month, Gurira herself told Access Hollywood how her character reacted to Rick's old pal.
"When we think about the last time these two characters met... Michonne was weirded out. [She] was like, 'Who is this guy? He's crazier than me and this is weird."
The Grinnell, Iowa-born actress also noted how her character is unfamiliar with Morgan and what she does know about him isn't something that would make sparks fly between the two.
"What she remembers [about Morgan] is not something safe or something comfortable."
While a relationship between the two "could develop down the road," Cleveland said Morgan's first priority is mending his relationship with Rick.
In the meantime, fans can catch "The Walking Dead" season 6 star Danai Gurira and the rest of the cast when the show premieres on October 11 on AMC.
