Samsung Gear A Smartwatch Release Date In August 13? Gear Manager Update Tease Upcoming Launch

Aug 05, 2015 12:48 PM EDT | By Jason Fonbuena

Next week, new Galaxy devices are set to debut. According to some reports, the Samsung Gear A smartwatch release date could be held in the same event.

Citing a report by The Wall Street Journal, Forbes said the Korean tech firm could also be getting ready to unveil its next-gen smartwatch alongside the new Note 5 and S6 edge Plus although reportedly, a "final decision still hasn't been made."

Fresh from attending Samsung's Tizen Developer Summit in Bangalore, India, Android Authority also thinks it's possible the Gear A smartwatch may be unveiled at the August 13 event.

One thing that also points to an imminent launch for Orbis, as it is known internally, is an update to the Gear Manager app.

"If you look closely at the splash screen, you'll notice outlines of previous Gear smatwatches, however, the most prominent outline is that of a round smartwatch," SamMobile said.

Since Samsung hasn't launched a round smatwatch to date, the website speculated that the update "could be a subtle hint towards what's in store for us."

Just as how the Samsung Gear A smartwatch release date has been the subject of rumors, so too has its specs and features been speculated several times over.

Last month, Franchise Herald cited a report from SamMobile that said the Gear A will be powered by a 1.2 GHz Exynos 3472 dual-core processor, a 450MHz Mali-400 GP, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a round 360 x 360p Super AMOLED display.

Known internally as Orbis, the smartwatch is said to have two variants distinguished by their respective connectivity options. One variant is said to have Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity while the other has Wi-Fi on top of that.

For now, the world will have to wait for confirmation on when exactly the Samsung Gear A smartwatch release date will be.
