Nissan Leaf 2016 To Get Up To 110-Mile Range Says Dealer; Release Date, Price ‘Still Tentative’

The upcoming Nissan Leaf 2016 will come with two battery option with the top-tier one able to go up to 110 miles. That is according to a Nissan dealership near Indianapolis.

Andy Mohr Avon Nissan located in Avon, Ind. reportedly has a page for the 2016 Leaf on their website.

"It says, in brief, that the base Leaf S model will continue with today's 24-kilowatt-hour battery pack, giving an EPA-rated range of 84 miles," Green Car Reports said.

"Drivers of higher trim levels will enjoy a battery with as much as 25 percent increased capacity delivering a driving range of as much as 110 miles," the dealer website said.

The "higher trim levels" in question are the Lead SV and Leaf SL, according to GCR.

While the Japanese EV is the world's best-selling electric car, it loses out to the Tesla Model S in the US.

The dealer site said that "release date and pricing are still tentative" for the Nissan Leaf 2016 which is to compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Bolt EV, said to have surpassed its targeted 200-mile range, in 2017 and the already-out BMW i3.

GCR thinks Nissan could still be mulling on how much to charge buyers for the increased range although pricing "would likely be announced only a few weeks before the 2016 Leafs go on sale."

Next year's Leaf is by no means a new model as "this does not seem to be any sort of information about a second-gen Leaf," AutoBlog said.

The website spoke to Andy Mohr Avon Nissan's internet manager Joe Kline who reportedly said that "it was likely that the information about the two battery packs came directly from Nissan but he wasn't 100 percent sure."

Early last month, Franchise Herald reported that the 2016 Leaf could have a bigger 30kWh battery that can give it a real-world range "closer to 105 to 110 miles."

Apart from a rumored increase in range, details on the upcoming Nissan Leaf 2016 has remained under wraps.
