Matt Poursoltani was a little-known high school senior before today, when video of his weekend exploits spread on YouTube. These were the good kind of exploits, mind you, in which he bench pressed 700 pounds to break the state record and come within 5 pounds of the NFL record. All before entering college.
The young man is seen in the video prepping before he sits on the bench. He is wearing a black spandex-type workout suit that looks specialized for weightlifting. He is compact at 270 pounds, and quite hairy. His spotter helps lift the weight, counts down, and then Poursoltani deftly brings all 700 pounds of metal down to his chest before lifting it again. He staggers off the bench amazed at his own feat, and then the capacity crowd goes wild. Congratulations and high-fives all around.
In an age when steroids plague many sports, it is important to note that Poursoltani is against PEDs, saying that someone who doesn't have the discipline to workout regularly and naturally to gain strength is not in the right profession. Many are speculating whether Poursoltani could be headed for the NFL in the future, seeing as he is already stronger than many NFL players at his size and weight, and he also has many peak years of growth ahead of him.
To gain the strength to bench press 2-3 times his own weight, Poursoltani eats a lot of protein. He seems to go the natural route, with a reported six sunny-side up eggs for breakfast, and cold cut sandwiches for lunch. It is said that he once ate two 16-ounce steaks with collard greens for dinner. Much can be said about the benefits of a natural regimen of eating and exercise, and the results speak for themselves.
"The Freak Show" as friends call him should rightfully be proud of his achievement. If he ends up on a football squad on a college team in the near future, whoever is on the receiving end of his tackles should watch out. This guy can bench 700 pounds.
