Digital currency application maker Bitcoin has discovered a security issue in Google's Android operating system, exposing them to theft when using applications according to eweek.com.

Updates are being created and tested for the Bitcoin Wallet, BitcoinSpinner, and Mycelium Wallet to prevent further issues eweek.com reported. An update for blockhain.info is also being made.

"Because the problem lies with Android itself, this problem will affect you if you have a wallet generated by any Android app," the company said on its website. "Apps where you don't control the private keys at all are not affected. For example, exchange frontends like the Coinbase or Mt Gox apps are not impacted by this issue because the private keys are not generated on your Android phone."

The company advises users to retrieve the most up-to-date version in the "Play Store," or location where applications can be downloaded from on the Android Phone when it becomes available.

When using the "Bitcoin Wallet" application which allows users to make payments free of charge, worldwide, the company suggests users make a new address with a "repaired random number generator," and then export the money in the user's wallet back to the user.

"If you use an Android wallet then we strongly recommend you to upgrade to the latest version available in the Play Store as soon as one becomes available," the company said on its website. "Once your wallet is rotated, you will need to contact anyone who has stored addresses generated by your phone and give them a new one," it said.

After an upgrade, the rotation will be automatic for those who have already downloaded the application the company's website said. Bitcoin prides its self on crytography which is meant to protect users eweek.com reported.
