Apple iPhone 6s Rumors: Specs To Include 2GB Of RAM? Did iOS Dev Confirm ‘Overdue’ Upgrade?

Sep 15, 2015 12:28 PM EDT | By Jason Fonbuena

2GB of RAM has long been the subject of iPhone 6s specs rumors. But just recently, iOS developer Hamza Sood may have just confirmed the memory upgrade for Apple's latest flagship.

After some digging, Sood found the memory upgrade and posted his findings on Twitter.

The developer also uncovered that the iPhone 6s Plus will have 2GB of RAM and the iPad Pro will have 4GB of RAM.

In a follow-up tweet, Sood explained that he tweaked Xcode 7 GM assets to confirm the rumors.

"Asset catalogs are normally used to serve different images for 1x, 2x and 3x screen scales," 9to5Mac explained.

"Sood instead made the asset loading depend on the memory capacity of the different devices."

Although the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and the iPad Pro were unveiled last week, Apple didn't dive into the devices' tech specs only choosing to reveal storage options and the new A9 chipset.

Various iPhone 6s specs rumors have long pointed to the RAM upgrade. As 9to5Mac noted, such an upgrade "has been somewhat overdue." Since the iPhone 5 was launched in 2012, Cupertino's flagship smartphones has been stuck with 1GB of RAM.

But why should consumers care about the upgrade?

More RAM helps the iPhone do more things at once, allowing you to have more apps open in the background and more Safari tabs open before you're forced to reload them," MacWorld explained.

While the new iPhone may be slated for more RAM, it's admittedly late to the party compared to its Android rivals. For instance, the newly-launched Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has 4GB of RAM per GSMArena.

Good as it may be, the information remains an iPhone 6s rumor. Apple hasn't confirmed the full specs for its latest devices.

Both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are now available for pre-order and are set for deliveries starting Sept. 25. Should the specs rumor turn out to be true, all models, regardless of storage size, should have the same amount of RAM.
