Sep 17, 2015 04:04 AM EDT | By Jean-Claude Arnobit

Motorola Solutions has announced that the company will be relocating its global headquarters from Schaumburg, Illinois to Chicago, according to a press release issued by Motorola Solutions.

The move brings the company back to where it began.

Motorola Solutions, the leading global provider of innovative mission-critical communications solutions for public safety and commercial customers, was founded in Chicago in 1928, according to the press release.

The company began its roots on Harrison Street.

Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions, said in the press release that they are "pleased" to be returning home.

"Our company began in this city 87 years ago, and today we're pleased to announce that our headquarters is coming home," he said. "This is another transformative step in ensuring a future of continued innovation, and will provide us with greater access to high-tech talent."

The Chicago Tribune reported that Motorola Solutions' move back to Chicago adds it to the list of companies that have left the suburbs for the downtown digs, particularly in the Loop and West Loop neighbourhoods.

Kraft Heinz, Hillshire Brands and United Airlines, are some of the companies that have moved to the city's downtown.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the companies' move to the city is due to their search for tech-savvy and younger workforce.

These types of employees prefer to work in the bright lights and big city than the sprawling suburban office campus.

Motorola Solutions said in the press release that the new office in Chicago will provide its employees with new and modern workspaces.

These new workspaces aim to spark innovation, creativity and collaboration among its employees.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in the press release that the company "not only returns to its Chicago roots but is doubling down on Chicago's future."

"The company will add hundreds of jobs to our city's growing technology industry and gain the access to talent that they need for the future we are all building here, in Chicago." He said.

Motorola Solutions will relocate approximately 800 employees to its new downtown headquarters, according to the press release.

The office in Chicago will include a range of positions, like the company's ventures group, the chief technology office, information technology, and software engineering.

Motorola Solutions plans to relocate its headquarters in the summer of 2016, according to the press release.

It will be moving to 150,000 square feet of space on six floors at 500 W. Monroe St.
