Toys R Us to Hire 40,000 Seasonal Employees Nationwide for Holiday Season, Will Also Offer Opportunity for More Hours

Toys R Us has announced in a press release that it plans to hire 40,000 seasonal employees as it prepares for another busy holiday shopping season.

The world's leading toy retailer also said that it plans to offer its seasonal employees the opportunity to take in more hours than in previous years.

Toys R Us said in the press release that its seasonal employees will average around 18 to 20 hours per week.

They also have the option to average around 30 hours during the peak season, but it's dependent on the employee's availability.

Dave Brandon, chairman and CEO of Toys R Us, said in the press release that their employees, both seasonal and full-time, play an important role during the holidays.

"Our expanded workforce, together with our more tenured toy experts, plays a pivotal role in ensuring we provide an exceptional experience for shoppers in search of gifts that will bring huge smiles to the children in their lives," he said. "We are seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated and customer-focused individuals to join our team during this busy, but very exciting time of year."

He also mentioned in the press release that their seasonal employees have the opportunity to be full-time employees.

"Our seasonal staffs help us make parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles holiday heroes, and we are proud that many members of our workforce began as seasonal employees and have remained with us as they grow their careers."

Toys R Us said in the press release that it has hired 20 percent of its seasonal employees last year to full-time positions after the Christmas holidays.

The company stated that some of its seasonal workers who have excelled in their roles have already transitioned into full-time management positions.

Reuters reported that Toys R Us' hiring of seasonal employees this year is lower compared to last year's hiring.

The company hired 45,000 seasonal workers in 2014.

Alyssa Peera, a spokeswoman from Toys R Us, told Reuters that their decision to cut on hiring and increase working hours was based on feedbacks.

"This decision was based on feedback we received from seasonal employees after our 2014 holiday season," she said.

Reuters reported that last year's seasonal employees worked for about 7 hours per week and 20 hours during the peak season.

Toys R Us said in the press release that the interview for seasonal positions begins this month and hired employees start work in October.
