The Waffle House Museum will celebrate its fifth anniversary to conclude National Waffle Week.

According to a company press release, the waffle chain will honor the occasion with an open house at the museum on Sept. 7 to end the historic week which begins Monday and finishes Saturday. The location is also the site of the company's first restaurant.

Waffle House co-founder Joe Rogers, Sr. said he never envisioned how successful the company would be.

"We never dreamed that Waffle House would be as big as it is today when we opened our doors in 1955. In the beginning, we thought we would open about ten locations and then go fishing," he said.

The company's first location opened in Avondale Estates, Ga. on Labor Day in 1995 when Rogers, and neighbor Tom Forkner had an idea for a restaurant focused on people serving quality food at a great value the company said.

The museum will be open to celebrate the occasion and 58 years of the famous entity in the south Saturday Sept. 7 from noon to 3 p.m.

Visitors can also take tours of the museum which resembles a diner. The first 200 people will receive a Waffle House gift bag. Guests will also be able to make their own waffles and compete in games for prizes at the free event, which is open to the public.

"The museum is a tribute to what Joe and Tom started, and a tribute to the tradition that all of our thousands of Associates have continued since 1955," said Pat Warner, Waffle House vice president of culture. "From that one location a very successful chain was born."

Currently, there are more than 1,690 Waffle House locations in 25 states. Since day one, the goal was to provide guests with a unique and comfortable dining experience.

At every restaurant, the bright "yellow sign" welcomes customers like an old friend, the jukebox plays a variety of now famous Waffle House songs and associates give customers a heartfelt greeting as they walk through the door.

The restaurant chain is based in Norcross, Ga. According to the company, it has sold over 890 million waffles over the past 58 years.
