Did the "Limitless" TV series live up to its hype? Critics' review of Bradley Cooper's new small screen project receives mixed reactions.

Set four years after the storyline of the film of the same title, the CBS' new series follows Brian Finch (Jake McDorman, "American Sniper"), a struggling musician, as he discovers the benefits of NZT at the insistence of a former bandmate and eventually finds himself accused of murdering that same friend.

Eager to prove his innocence, he asks help from FBI Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter, "Dexter") but gets himself into more trouble instead. His life is eventually saved by Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) who is now a Senator and is considering running for President.

Mora offers to take away the side effects of the NZT with a secretly developed mystery cure. Why exactly Eddie is offering him the cure is a mystery but he seems to know that Brian will be offered a consultant position in the FBI very soon.

According to IGN's "Limitless" TV series review, "the setup in the first episode is still very entertaining and even answers some questions left hanging at the end of the movie."

Forbes even dubbed it "one of the best new shows of the fall thanks to efficient narrative ability."

The Hollywood Reporter, on the other hand, thought it's "silly and gets sillier with each attempted gloss on the premise. " It also questioned the Brian's "power" while high on the drug.

"It's one thing for Brian to have expanded guitar abilities and to be able to read complex medical books swiftly -- his ailing father, played by Ron Rifkin, is a key source of humanizing -- but in no time, Brian is also doing parkour and playing chicken with subway trains and writer Craig Sweeny keeps insisting on explaining things," the article said.

CinemaBlend wasn't impressed enough to be invested in the pilot episode either.

"It's well done and efficient but not emotionally engaging. It's striking but not investing," the article pointed out. The site's "Limitless" TV series review also added that it's "sleeker than it is impactful" and "just a bit boring," giving it a dismal two stars out of five.
