K-Cup Soup Finally Comes to Coffee Machine; Campell's Teams Up With Green Mountain For New Method

Soup is going to start coming out of Green Mountain coffee machines.

According to The Christian Monitor, Campbell's Soup will begin to offer K-cup soup packs which can be made with Green Mountain's infamous single serve coffee machines.

The soups will include a K-cup pack brewed over a packet of dry pasta and vegetables. Campbell's CEO Denise Morrison told the Monitor in a phone interview, the creation is easy and convenient.

"It's delicious soup at the touch of a button," he said.

The Green Mountain coffee machines are made so its system are cleansed when the coffee is brewed and pasted heated preventing the danger of the flavors in the soup and coffee flavors mixing together.

Coffee drinkers and other customers can also by Green Mountain K-cups for fruit drinks and hot cocoa the Monitor reported.

The two companies in Campbell's and Green Mountain plan to unveil three new assortments in 2014 such as Chicken Broth and Noodle. The news is also the latest development in Green Mountain's goals to expand how the K-cups can be used.

Morrison proposed the idea to Green Mountain executives at an event less than a year ago, and then tested it repeatedly with consumers to see how it fared. Green Mountain Chief Executive Officer Brian Kelley said soup eaters and others wanted the liquid food in the company's machines.

"Consumers told us we should put Campbell soup in these machines," Kelley said.

Campbell has been thinking of ways it can cater to individuals in their 20s and 30s, and make their packaged foods more diverse to meet the needs of consumers wanting fresher and healthier foods the Monitor reported. One way the company is doing this is by offering "Go" soups for people who need to eat on the on the move and don't have time to sit down for a meal or snack.

Campbell makes Pepperidge Farm cookies and Prego spaghetti sauces, and most recently purchased Bolthouse Farm Juices and Plum Organics baby food.
