Selena Gomez Doesn’t Want Special Treatment Over Lupus Disease; Doesn’t Want Fans To ‘Feel Sorry’

After bravely telling the world of her lupus disease, Selena Gomez reportedly felt relieved.

However, despite assurances that she will be fine, SelGo fans can't help but worry about the "Good For You" singer.

"Selena is relieved to have finally got her secret battle with lupus off her chest," a source recently told Hollywood Life. "She hopes by bringing more light to the disease, she'll be able to help others identify the symptoms that are associated with it. And that even someone as famous as her can get struck down with something so unfortunate."

Selena Gomez also doesn't want people to feel differently around her, just because of her health condition.

"Selena also doesn't want any special dispensation because of her Lupus disease," the source added. "She wants to carry on like as if nothing happened, and doesn't want people to feel sorry for her. She's incredibly tough, and is handling it all so well. Selena still wants to live independently and not have to rely on anyone to help her through this."

A few days ago, Selena Gomez revealed her secret battle with lupus disease, a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage different parts of the body such as joints, skin and internal organs, according to Lupus.org.

"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," Gomez said in a Billboard Magazine interview.

The "Me & the Rhythm" singer also slammed the media for citing her hiatus from Hollywood in 2014 to her break-up with Justin Bieber, when in truth, she was taking a break due to her disease.

"I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're assholes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again," Gomez said.
