NBA Trade Rumors: Tristan Thompson Replacement In Cavaliers Found?

Oct 13, 2015 10:33 PM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

Recent NBA trade rumors have it that after being denied of his asking price, there is no other option for Tristan Thompson but to look for new home outside of Cleveland Cavaliers.

Grantland's Zach Lowe suggests Orlando Magic should jump on an NBA trade deal for the improving Cavs big man by offering veteran Channing Frye.

"The Cavs are not totally without options if Thompson holds out for months. The corpse of Brendan Haywood left behind a $10.5 million trade exception, and the Cavs can trade a future first-rounder that would almost certainly become a 2018 pick," Lowe wrote.

"That's enough to start talks for someone like [Ed] Davis once he becomes trade-eligible on December 15, or even Markieff Morris if he pipes up again. Sources around the league say Channing Frye is available now for very little, though Magic officials deny it."

Thompson's named was dragged into several NBA trade rumors after discussions with Cleveland Cavaliers for a new contract went sour. Even his teammate and team superstar Lebron James called on the Cavs management to settle the Thomposon issue which he calls a distraction.

Yibada also reported that the standoff between the two parties is worse than what is seen in the media.

"According to Brian Windhorst in The Lowe Post podcast, the standoff could "last for months."

Thompson is holding out because he feels that the Cavs will eventually realize that they need him for the championship run. The Cavs may start out slow from the gate without Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert while Kevin Love is probably not at full strength."

Cleveland Cavaliers remains one of the legit title contenders in the 2015-16 NBA season. Tristan Thompson was one of those who came up big for the team in the last NBA finals when several of their star players went down with injuries. The team will have Kevin Love back but surely, they will need another big man who can patrol the paint.
