'Arrow' Season 4 Episode 2 Postmortem: Felicity Is Important Insists EP Wendy Mericle

Oct 16, 2015 11:49 AM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

"Arrow" season 4 episode two titled "The Candidate" featured a richer Felicity who is now the CEO of Palmer Technologies.

It was a new territory for Oliver's (Stephen Amell) girlfriend. If in Team Arrow she is some sort of another member, in Ray Palmer's former firm, she is the main guy that everyone turns to whenever there's a problem.

Felicity Smoak, portrayed by Emily Bett Rickards, is not the most popular character in third season. That is supposed to change this season and her assuming the CEO role in Palmer Technologies is the start.

Executive producer Wendy Mericle said people will see more of the computer genius and her past. She also adds that Felicity is still an integral part of the TV series.

"One of the things we're excited about is getting more into her past and also seeing more of what drives her," Mericle told Variety in interview after "Arrow" season 4 episode 2.

"She's hugely important... We're all very protective, not just the women in the room, everyone has the objective of making sure she has her own agenda and her own drive and her own opinions and it's not tied to 'am I gonna get the boy?'"

Previous spoilers revealed "Arrow" season 4 will dig deep into Felicity's past and this might include a story about his father. Her mom, Donna, is already set to appear for a recurring role.

Mericle was asked about this but she did not give a clear answer.

"We're always talking about it, but we have to find the right story and the right moment," she told TV Line earlier this month.

"We trust that it will come to us when it's meant to come to us."

"[Emily Bett Rickards is] on the top of her game. She's hysterical. We're definitely writing jokes for her, but she's also finding humor in lines that weren't intentionally humorous."

"Arrow returns next week for episode called "Restoration."

"The growing tension between Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Diggle (David Ramsey) puts both their lives at risk when they go after Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough) and a H.I.V.E. deployed meta-human. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) talks Thea (Willa Holland) into returning to Nanda Parbat to ask her father (John Barrowman) to put Sara (guest star Caity Lotz) into the Lazarus Pit. However, Laurel is surprised when Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) refuses to do it."
