"Star Trek: Beyond" is scheduled to hit theaters next year and while fans wait patiently, Idris Elba surprisingly reveals details about his role.

In an interview with MTV, the 43-year-old British hunk confirmed that he's going to be the next villain in the movie. And while he failed to reveal what character is that, he did promise that it's going to be "groundbreaking."

"I think Star Trek has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like 'he's a guy who wants to end the world,' there's no doubt about that," he explained. "But in this version of the film, there's a slightly different twist to that. It's quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the 'classic bad guy is a classic bad guy' tone."

His statament immediately sparked the previously rumored Klingons.

Slash Film suggested that Elba's statement could be in reference to a Klingon villain.

Co-star and writer, Simon Pegg tried to dismiss the speculation but he did backtrack his statement saying "or maybe he will."

The publication also noted that it was Pegg who previously said that Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan in "Star Trek" was just "a myth."

And while Idris Elba remained silent about the specific role he'll be playing, he did praise Pegg's work teasing that he has never played a "character" like this in his career.

"Simon [Pegg] and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character. You've never seen me play a character like this."

In addition to Idris Elba and his still unknown character, "Star Trek 3" cast include Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as Leonard McCoy a.k.a. Bones, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov.

"Kingsman: The Secret Service" star Sofia Boutella will also appear in the movie.

"Star Trek Beyond" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
