Who is Looking At You Online? New Mozilla Firefox Add-On Allows Users to See

Mozilla users can now see who is tracking them thanks to a new add-on for its internet browser The Inquirer reported Friday.

"Collusion is an experimental add-on for Firefox and allows you to see all the third parties that are tracking your movements across the web," Mozilla said in a statement, The Inquirer reported. "It will show, in real time, how that data creates a spider-web of interaction between companies and other trackers."

The new feature, also known as Lightbeam gathers information about what websites people have visited and what people have tracked them while they are viewing them The Inquirer reported.

Users can utilize the add-on by clicking on an icon in the bottom right corner of their computer program.

A graph then opens up with six tabs showing the user who is on the same page as they are. These mostly consist of ad networks, and errors. Users can view this information as a list, or as a clock.

"We recognize the importance of transparency and our mission is all about empowering users - both with tools and with information," the company told The Inquirer. "The Ford Foundation is supporting Mozilla to develop the Collusion add-on so it will enable users to not only see who is tracking them across the web, but also to turn that tracking off when they want to. "Many services rely on user data to provide relevant content and enhance your online experience. But most tracking happens without users' consent and without their knowledge. That's not okay. It should be you who decides when, how and if you want to be tracked. Collusion will be a powerful tool to help you do that."

The software also shows users where trackers are accessing there internet and how they can appropriate information to Mozilla's data collection so the company can research the different aspects of online tracking.
