Marvel Vs DC: 'Gotham' Season 2 Cast Michael Chiklis Explains Difference Between 2 Studios

Oct 20, 2015 09:31 PM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

Michael Chiklis is one of the biggest additions in "Gotham" season 2 cast. He plays original character Captain Nathaniel Barnes.

Chiklis is no stranger to television acting as he already appeared in more or less 15 TV shows. However, whenever his name comes up, he is always associated with his role in 2004 movie "Fantastic Four" where he played The Thing. This gig of his is what made fans excited about his "Gotham" season 2 casting.

"Fantastic Four" is from Marvel while Gotham is DC. Fans are on a never-ending battle on which one between the two comic book companies is better. Chiklis does not want to engage in such debate. He, however, points out what makes the two different from each other.

"In the comic book scene, I've been in the Marvel Universe before, but that's incredibly different from DC which is more 'Heart of Darkness' noir, brooding kind of a feel to it," Chiklis explained when interviewed by Comicbook.com at the New York Comic-con.

"It's very cool!"

Before joining "Gotham" season 2 cast, Chikilis played another hero in "No Ordinary Family" and as Vic Mackey in acclaimed critical series "The Shield." The difference in his role in the Fox TV series is that unlike Mackey, Barnes is not corrupt.

However, in another interview with Zap2It, Chiklis said Barnes is not exactly a good guy, only a police who firmly believes in the law.

"That's what I thought was interesting about this guy. He's a law-and-order zealot. He believes in the rule of law and the letter of the law," he said.

"What you'll find out down the line are the reasons he is that way.

The name of this season is "Rise of the Villains." Up until my entrance, there really have been the bad guys running amok in Gotham. Barnes is a counterbalance and an answer to all this calamity. He's brought in as an ally to lawman James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) - Barnes sees Gordon as the hope of the future of law enforcement in Gotham, but he's also concerned about what the kid is slipping into, which is the end-justifies-the-means kind of law enforcement. Barnes is adamantly opposed to that."

"Gotham" returns for seventh episode titled "Mommy's Little Monster."
