Best Buy to Offer Free Shipping for Holiday Season, Competes Aggressively with Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target

Best Buy, the largest consumer electronic chain in the U.S., will be dropping all of the restrictions to avail of the free shipping for the holiday season, according to a report from The New York Times.

The company is aiming to compete aggressively with Amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Target during the holiday season.

The New York Times adds that Bet Buy will be removing the $35 minimum purchase that consumers need to spend to avail of the free shipping.

The restriction will be removed starting Sunday, October 25, 2015.

The New York Times adds that a survey conducted earlier this month by the National Retail Federation show that about 47 percent of consumers that were polled consider free shipping or shipping promotions as important factors on where they will shop.

Best Buy's free shipping will run until January 2, 2016.

The New York Times adds 2012 was the last time Best Buy dropped its shipping fee to all customers.

StarTribune adds that Target has offered the free shipping last year during the holiday season.

The company though has yet to announce whether it would be offering the same promotion this holiday season.

StarTribune adds that retailers usually offer their best promotions during the competitive holiday season.

The holiday season accounts for a big chunk of retailers annual sales.

StarTribune adds that Best Buy's aggressive shipping stance to the holiday season this year is very different from its shipping strategy in recent years.

The company actually increased its minimum requirement for free shipping last year to $35, up from $25.

StarTribune adds that Wal-Mart requires consumers a $50 minimum purchase on its website to get free shipping.

Amazon, on the other hand, offers free two-day shipping and free same-day delivery in some markets to members of its $99-a-year Prime membership.

Aside from free shipping, Best Buy will also be having holiday sale events at 400 of its stores on November 7, 2015, according to The New York Times.

The sale event will feature Black Friday-like deals.
