An American Airlines Boeing 757 flight heading to Boston from Miami made an unexpected pit stop in Orlando Tuesday night when the aircraft's windshield cracked while the plane was up in the air The New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

The plane touched down in Orlando shortly after 10:30 p.m., and then the 156 passengers boarded another aircraft to take them to Boston at midnight. The plane then arrived after 2 a.m.

"It made for a very long night for them," Andrea Huguely, an airline spokesperson told The Daily News.

Huguely made an extra effort to make sure the passengers made it safely to their destination.

"We do want our passengers to get to Boston this evening," Huguely told The Daily News."Tonight they had a bit of a detour but they will make it to Boston."

One passenger took to his blog to detail the incident.

"We held at 10,000 flying slowly over the ocean as the pilot kept us up to date on the situation. Another pilot on-board the flight in first class was brought into the cockpit to assist," Tim Kelley, a meteorologist in Boston said in his blog The Daily News reported. "The captain periodically announced updates in a calm professional voice, saying he 'has 30 years of experience, and there is a procedure we must follow.. our windshield has pretty much disintegrated.. we will be landing in Orlando in a few minutes. There were no injuries. But there were a few shaken up passengers (many prayers, a few tears)."

The news is the latest incident of a unusual circumstance happening on an aircraft.

A Spirit Airlines Airbus 319 flight flying from Dallas Fort-Worth Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson International airport last month was forced to turn back after lifting off into the air because of a possible fire CBS News reported.
