Newest 'Empire' Season 2 Cast Adam Rodriguez Talks What His Character Can Offer

Nov 02, 2015 11:56 AM EST | By Rolly Gacelo

Adam Rodriguez has joined "Empire" season 2 cast as Laz Delgado, a potential love interest for Taraji P. Henson's Cookie Lyon.

The Puerto Rican actor, more known for his roles in "CSI Miami" and "Magic Mike XXL", is just one of many recurring guest stars in the Fox musical drama.

So far, the new guest stars that already appeared played a significant part in the story and not just decorations. The same can be expected from Rodriguez.

The newest "Empire" season 2 cast members said his character will offer a new outlook for the usually chaotic life of Cookie.

"[On Empire] you always see Cookie having to fight everybody: Lucious, her son, the rest of the world," Rodriguez told Remezcla.

"Whatever it is, Cookie's such a fighter, and no matter who you are, at some point you just want to be held, you want to be able to let your guard down and just breathe. And I think [my character] Laz comes along, and through the course of their business relationship Cookie thinks she can just breathe with him. And I think that the same thing happens to Laz."

Rodriguez's "Empire" season 2 casting was first reported by TV Line on June this year. It said the actor will "play native New Yorker and former EMT Laz Delgado, who's described by producers as "a smooth-talking concert promoter with expert hustler skills... who takes an interest in Cookie."

There are no reports yet what specific episode he will appear.

"Empire" season 2 took a break last week. Music Empire said the show gave way for the ongoing World Series between New York Mets and Kansas City Royals.

When the show returns this week, the mess that is the Lyon clan continues. Read "Empire" season 2 episode guide below for "A High Hope for a Low Heaven."

"Lucious and Cookie must put aside their differences and work together as parents to protect their family and keep them out of danger. Jamal does his best to get back in the studio and break away from being defined solely as a gay artist, while Hakeem struggles with how to feel and act like a man. Meanwhile, Andre works to shut down a division at Empire, until he discovers a disciple in the midst of Lucious' Gutter Life records."
