'Gotham' Season 2 Spoiler: Cobblepot Just Earned License To Become Full-Time Monster, Says Taylor

The latest "Gotham" season 2 episode titled "Mommy's Little Monster" is a tough one for Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor).

Maybe 'tough' is an understatement. It was a devastating moment for the man who will turn into Batman classic villain The Penguin.

The self-made king of Gotham City has just lost her mother Gertrud (Carol Kane) as she was killed by Theo Galavan (James Frain) right in front of him. Taylor said Gertrud is the only one keeping him sane. She is the reason why he hasn't gone full beast.

Although pained to see her mother go in the worst way, Oswald Cobblepot will find solace in the loss. With her one true love not here anymore, Taylor said there is no more reason for his character to hold back.

Watch out Gothamites, Cobblepot can now go as full-time monster.

"His mother was his tether to humanity, and she offered the only love he really experienced in his life," Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter when asked for "Gotham" season 2 spoiler regarding the next step for his character.

"To lose that is absolutely devastating, but in a way it's freeing. He feels tremendous guilt about his role in her death, and it'll be interesting to see what happens if he can ever come to terms with that. In a way, his shred of humanity has been ripped away from him. It's a huge transition for him."

Taylor added the loss only gave him the license to embrace the mad man that he is supposed to be.

"I think he's learned a tremendous amount, and has changed tremendously based on what happened,"he said.

"Going forward, we're going to see him continue to discover who he is, but that'll deepen and become more vibrant. He's lost his mother, but also his relationship with Jim Gordon is very shaky and tenuous now. It's almost as if he's got full license now to be the monster that everyone seems to want him to be."

Show returns next week for episode called "Tonight's the Night." Read "Gotham" season 2 spoiler here.
