Kia Recall: 80,000 Sedona Minivans Pulled Back For Steering Issue

Nov 22, 2013 11:35 AM EST | By Justin Stock

Kia Motors is pulling back 80,000 Sedona minivans because of a steering issue The New York Times reported Friday. Toyota and Porsche also anticipate issuing their own recalls.

"Vehicle quickly became unsteerable," an owner said in a complaint submitted Wednesday according to The Times. "If this sudden failure had occurred moments earlier with my kids on the way to school and on the highway this could have been a much worse result."

Affected vehicles were sold or are documented in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

"The front lower control arms may break due to corrosion resulting from prolonged exposure to salty environments," The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported in its write-up.

According to Virginia television station WTVR, Kia employees anticipate examining vehicles, and switching out parts at no charge.

Toyota is set to also pull back 9,800 vehicles because the windshield wiper motor might not work due to an electric short. The models include the 2013 to 2014 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, and Avalon Hybrid, and the 2014 Corolla.

"A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash," the administration said in the recall section of its website.

Porsche is pulling back 81 2014 Boxster, Cayman, and 911 Carrera  additions since a wiring harness can prevent the air bag from spreading out in the event of an accident.

The intermittent plug may cause the passenger seat frontal and knee airbags may be deactivated. In the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, this may increase the risk of injury to the front passenger.

Two-hundred and seven 2014 Cayennes are also being recalled because the fuel gauge can stay on high when gas maybe at another level.
